EXAMINING THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF BURA PHONOLOGY

1-5 Chapters
Library / Doctrinal
NGN 4000

ABSTRACT: This project investigated the morphology of the Bura (Pabir) language. This piece of work consists of a total of five chapters. Chapter one delved into various aspects of the language, including its socio-linguistic profile, historical backgrounds, geographical location, and genetic classification. The discussion also encompassed the extent and arrangement of the study, the theoretical framework employed, as well as the approach utilised for gathering and analysing data. In chapter two, the focus was on the phonology of the Bura language. It also discussed the nature of morphology, various types of morphemes, and introduced several other important concepts related to morphology. Chapter three of the study delved into the analysis of the morphology of the Bura language, focusing on the exploration of both free and bound morphemes. The discussion also encompassed the syntactic categories of the words in the language and the typology of morphology. In chapter four, an analysis was conducted on the different morphological processes that have been observed in the language. The linguistic phenomena that exist are affixation, borrowing, reduplication, and compounding. According to this research, it has been found that Bura belongs to the Afro-Asiatic language family and is spoken in five local governments within Borno State, Nigeria. The aforementioned local governments include Hawul, Biu, Damatura, Shafa, and Shani. It is not possible to claim that this work has thoroughly covered all aspects of Bura language morphology. Nevertheless, we hold the conviction that this endeavour will function as a foundation for subsequent investigations into the intricacies of the language, specifically within the domains of morpho-phonology, morpho-syntax, socio-linguistics, and applied linguistics.
